I am trying to find a talented mechanic, preferably involved in banger racing, who could help us with the recording of the above television programme in Manchester. Do you know of anyone, or have any ideas as to the best way to find one?

Any help much appreciated.

£1 Race Fee Levy

Dear Driver,

The ORCi, in conjunction with BriSCA, have spent the Winter months addressing and evaluating the increasing legislatory requirements in our sport, both now, and over the coming years. This is particularly important in areas such as Noise and Health & Safety.

These are issues that affect the very continuance of our sport and ORCi / BriSCA promoters have committed a significant amount of money to evaluate and produce policies that will assist in the sports very survival and statutory compliance .

Accredited professional consultants are being engaged to work with promoters in all speciality areas to complete this major task.

As you will imagine, the work carries a significant  cost and considerable time input for promoters. This project is designed to ensure racing continues to grow and prosper for drivers as much as promoters.

Given the level of investment required, at a recent meeting of the ORCi it was unanimously agreed that from Saturday 31st May 2008 drivers of all formulae  racing at ORCi tracks will be required to pay a nominal ORCi levy of £1 per competitor at each meeting they race in, as a contribution to help fund the project.  The Fund was recently originated by financial contributions sourced by promoters. This levy goes direct to the ORCi and is 'ring fenced' for the exclusive use of improving Health and Safety within our sport

We feel confident that drivers will agree that sharing this burden as a sport assists in protecting and benefiting the future for everyone involved.

Hazel Cooke

Chair – Oval Racing Council

FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLE BEE RETURNS TO BRANDON!
In Association with Swinton Car Project

Startrax announced this week that they are to stage BriSCA F2 Stock Car Racing at Coventry this year bringing the UK's biggest formula back to the Brandon shaleway.

Startrax boss Steve Rees struck a deal with Coventry owner Avtar Sandhu, concluded only a couple of weeks ago. Rees explained " It is a great opportunity and a big challenge with a Friday night race date " He went on " Since the date was publicly announced late Thursday F2 drivers have been fast off the mark with already touching 50 booked in for the 72 places. I would like to thank BriSCA F2 promoters and the Board of Control for not only accomodating our application but dealing with it so swiftly"

The event on FRIDAY 25th April starts at 7.15.pm and is also an important World Championship Qualifier, one of only five on shale.

Rees went on " It's a big night for BriSCA F2, it is also expensive to put on and we are hoping that F2 fans rally round and encourage a friend to come along - it's that important for it to be a huge success. Behind the scene 4FS marketings' Paul Brown will be working hard to gain some sponsorship and positive PR. We are delighted to announce that SWINTON CAR PROJECT will once again be supporting us in a big way, for which we are extremely grateful'

The event will be a big team effort, Startrax Race Director Phil Morris has set a 'MyLaps four lap challenge' with plans for a Top F1 driver, complete with car expected to take on the hottest current driver on shale for a true race of Champions'

Heritage Cars provide a unique and different support programme with the cracklin sound of side valves and recogniseable body shells from the 50's and 60's adding rough and tumble and good old fashioned colourful noise and spectacle to Brandon.

2 litre Bangers also feature in the KING OF THE MIDLANDS with something special to be announced next month. Fifty 2 litre Bangers are being accepted with over a dozen booking in the first 48 hours.
The Bangers will be all in and are expected to provide amazing entertainment.

Heritage and F2 driver bookings have been given conditional on their arrival at the stadium well before 6.pm to assist in the smooth running of this huge spectacular which gets underway at 7.15.pm PROMPT.

Race hosts for this fantastic evening will be Bev Greenhalf and Peter Yorke with race direction keeping the show on the road from Phil Morris and Martyn Clarke.

Admission prices are £13 Adults, £10 OAP and £5 Children, Under 5's are FREE Family tickets are £30 for 2 + 2

RACE SPONSORS & TROPHY SPONSORS would be very welcomed, any amount appreciated with anything from programme mentions, trophy presentations to full corporate facilities available.

Major Dutch disappointment

News from Holland and Dutch media last night suggests that, despite a long battle, the end of the road has been reached for the Venray circuit.

The venue has been under threat for several years with promoter Harry Maaesen even planning to relocate the track just yards from the current circuit.

Following weeks of speculation about an indoor venue being built, in recent months a new tarmac raceway on land owned by the Dutch promoter has been constructed.

However, after a protracted legal battle, it is reported that in the courts yesterday it was ruled that there will be no more racing at the Venray circuit despite the hope of at least two events, the site must be cleared by the 11th March and the new development site restored to it's original condition.

There is as yet to be an official statement on the situation although one is anticipated, however the loss of Venray will be a huge blow to Dutch tarmac racing with only Lleystaddt remaining with limited fixtures. It was hugely popular with Dutch race fans and English visitors.

Please note that the above information may not be 100% confirmed at the present time and we will keep you updated on the situation

Swinton Car Project FORESTRY COMMISSION Sponsorship

The Startrax hosted BriSCA F1 Grand National Championship at Belle Vue in October has been kindly supported by the Swinton Car Project and one of it's major backers, The Forestry Commission.

Headed by Dave Woods the project works hard to secure and provide facilities for under priviliged kids to become involved in oval racing and it is currently concentrating at the moment to raise the overall profile of the project and bring oval racing and local communities closer together.

Whilst the project has been around for many years - growing successes within the community have broadened the projects aims.
More info will be released shortly and they will have a new website up and running.

Startrax and Swinton Motor Project develop Community initiative

Startrax are delighted to announce a ground breaking long term association with the SWINTON MOTOR PROJECT based in Greater Manchester.

Headed by Dave Woods, the project has specific aims by introducing youngsters to oval motor racing at a grass roots level and this has been made possible through a number of charitable benefactors and investment in specific projects within the community.

The Swinton Motor Project is enjoying an increasing awareness due to various successes over the last few years of various oval racing initiatives.

These projects have already proven hugely successful in providing activities in the Greater Manchester area which have enabled youngsters to become involved in Oval motorsport.

After several months of discussion, plans have been agreed for the 2008 season that allows a number of objectives to be fulfilled whilst achieving the main criteria of providing an affordable access to oval racing. The interest of high profile organisations through this project we jointly believe can only enhance oval motor sport and provide potential future development opportunities and profile for the sport as well as offering facilities for the local community.

Startrax boss Steve Rees added " Dave has a long background in community activities and has headed this project for a number of years. The ideas that he and I have discussed are long term however will raise the profile of the project, provide an immediate platform for competitors and allows our sport to become a bigger part of the community. Dave has done all the hard work thus far and he himself has exciting plans which we are delighted to dovetail with"

More information will be available at the Autosports International Show in January
